This guideline describes the state of the art in research and science within the sphere of ecologically orientated production, respectively, recultivation/restoration of a viable ecological system (ecosystem) and a landscape appropriate to the original state (and the recuperation value of the landscape) following technical interventions in high zones. This guideline is thus to be seen as explanations of the relevant ÖNORM (Austrian standards) and thus give working documentation and decision aides for planning, construction and cultivation. Projects can be assessed and evaluated on this basis. Due to the increased sensitivity of common restoration, high-site restoration is essentially different because with increasing altitude living conditions are not only generally more extreme for plant growth (precipitation, temperature, radiation, etc.). Only vegetation adapted to the respective site is able to withstand the prevailing conditions and fulfil its function within the ecological system and the landscape.
